Inno Pocket Metal Deluxe Case for Clié PEG-T Series
Reviewed on 10 May 2002 by Beng-Yeow Goh

Type: Case
Manufacturer: Inno Pocket
Designed for: Sony Clié T Series
Material: Anodized Aircraft Aluminium
Dimensions: 120.5 x 78.5 x 18 mm, 74g
Price: US$29.90

Ever since the Sony Clié T615C became my PDA of choice, the search for a case to match the elegant silver metallic finish of the T615C had been a futile one --- until the announcement of the Metal Deluxe Case for the Clié PEG-T Series by Inno Pocket.

When it finally arrived, the silver-finished case and T615C looked like a match made in heaven. Made of anodized aircraft aluminium, the case provides excellent protection for the PDA and weighs in at just 74g, with a finish that matches the T615C so well that many would find it hard to believe that it is made by a third-party manufacturer. Like many hardcases, the Metal Deluxe Case also has a thin but firm layer of neoprene lining which secures the PDA in place, while protecting it against shocks from drops and collisions.

The handheld is secured in place by metallic catches which attach themselves to the back of the device, and the case opens up much like a book.

Because the T615C is my main PDA, I was able to give the case a full test over the last two weeks. The beautifully done cutouts allow easy access to the Memory Stick slot, Jog Dial, stylus, Infra-Red port and the HotSync connector. This is certainly the most outstanding feature of the case, as it makes it possible for one to perform day to day tasks without having to remove the PDA from the case.

Held close by a metal clasp, the case is secure and, unlike some of the other hardcases, will not open when the unit is dropped - fulfilling its primary function of protection for the handheld.

Opening the case, one could not help but find it odd that the lid opens to the right with the handheld sitting on the left. However, a further examination points to this as an important design of the case. Just imagine --- had the hinge been on the left like in most of the other cases, one would not be able to access the Jog Dial and back button which are located on the left of the device.

Everything from removing the stylus to inserting the Memory Stick is straightforward when the device is in the case. However, do note that you can only perform a HotSync using a HotSync cable with the Clié in the case, as the case will not fit into the T-Series HotSync cradle.

The Verdict

Designed to fit the Clié PEG-T Series to a T, the brushed aluminium finished case is easy to grip and possibly the thinnest case around for the Clié PEG-T Series.

It certainly is hard to fault this case. The protection provided by the case, without compromising the functionality of the handheld, makes the Metal Deluxe Case a must-have for any Clié PEG-T Series user. I would strongly recommend this case to any T-Series user to protect their "investment".
