Vaja 745 Sync-able case for Palm m500 series
Reviewed on 9 September 2002 by Beng-Yeow Goh

Type: Case
Manufacturer: Vaja Cases
Dimensions: 3 1/8" x 4 5/8" x 6/8"
Price: US$49.90 - US$59.90

Since its entry into the PDA case arena in April 2000, Vaja cases have established themselves as the trendsetter for PDA cases. Though priced at a premium, Vaja's PDA cases have always shown exceptional quality and workmanship. The Vaja 745 Sync-able case for Palm m500 series carries the tradition of quality found in Vaja cases.

The 745 is available in two versions, one with a magnetic closure and one with a snap closure. My review sample was the magnetic version. Both versions are available with the option of a belt clip.

Well-designed, the 745 case not only fits the m515 to a T, but also allows easy inserting and removal of the handheld from the case. The cutouts on the case also allow easy accessibility of the application buttons and the power switch. This offers protection without compromising the usability of the handheld. The use of a slipper style design also allows accessibility to the IR port and SD card slot without additional cut outs while keeping both stylus silos exposed.

The screen cover of the case features an ABS insert, which protects the screen from shocks, bumps and collisions that may come its way. On the inside of the screen cover, there are two SD cards slot as well as two credit card slots. While the design for both fits just nicely, I would discourage putting credit cards (or any magnetic cards for that matter) in the magnetic closure version of the case as it could damage the card.

The back of the 745 case features a hole, which allows the reset pin to be inserted in case a reset has to be performed. The feature that I like most is the opening at the bottom of the case for the HotSync connector. This allows you to perform a HotSync with the case on. While this is not a new feature in leather cases, it’s certainly a great feature to have.

The most beautiful part about the case has to be the exterior of the screen cover, the textured leather coupled with a soft leather lining gives the case an unique yet stylish look. Securing the screen cover are magnets which are surprisingly strong and hold the screen cover well in place. No worries about an unsecured screen cover.

The Verdict

Well designed, with good quality leather and unparalleled craftsmanship, the Vaja 745 Sync-able case for Palm m500 series is a first class case.

While offering ample protection for your handheld, the case adds only a bit of thickness without compromising the functionality of the handheld. This coupled with the ability to sync and charge in the case earns full points for functionality.

The only complaint one might have about this case is the price. However for a case of this quality, can anyone dispute its worth?
